Arrange care / What gets checked
What makes a plan fit you?
The question is bigger than whether a service will say yes. Ask how your health history, goals, and other medicines affect the options.
Start with the reason for treatment.
As of September 26, 2026, tirzepatide (Zepbound) had a weight-management approval for adults with obesity.
It also covered adults who were overweight and had another health problem related to their weight.
Its sleep-apnea approval covered adults with both obesity and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) had a separate diabetes approval at the same date.
Ask which reason applies to the proposed plan and what the clinician will check to decide.
An insurer’s payment rules are another question; they do not replace a review of your health.
Make room for your health history.
Before prescribing tirzepatide, a clinician needs to ask about thyroid cancer in your family and serious stomach problems. Both relate to warnings in the medicine information checked on September 26, 2026.
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck.
Tell the clinician about past problems with your pancreas or gallbladder, organs that help digestion.
Also discuss diabetes-related eye problems, birth-control pills, pregnancy plans, diabetes medicines, and planned surgery. These can affect the care plan.
Write down anything you are unsure how to describe and ask the clinician to help name it.
The problems-and-precautions page explains these warnings and when to get urgent help.
Ask what a test would change.
As of September 26, 2026, federal rules did not call for blood tests with every prescription as a general requirement.
State rules may differ, and the medicine or your health may call for tests.
Ask what the proposed tests are for, what the results might change, and whether past results would help.
Also ask about the cost and the place where tests will be done.
A decision to arrange an exam or discuss another treatment can be part of the care plan.
Keep this note
Ask why a plan fits, not just whether a form can be approved.
