The care notebookA guide to care online

Start here / Ways to seek care

Find a way to talk through your health.

Choose the kind of conversation that works for you. Ask how your health will be checked, what medicine is proposed, and how payment works.

Care through a screen

Look for a licensed online-care service that explains how a health professional will check your health and answer your questions.

US health-department guidance as of September 26, 2026, said a clinician needed permission to treat you in the state where you were located during the visit.

That can mean a licence from that state or another kind of permission it accepts.

Tell the clinician which state you will be in for the visit, and ask whether they can treat you there.

A service covering your home state may not be the answer while you are travelling.

Care in a room

Your usual doctor’s office or a local weight-management service is a place to ask about a review of your health.

Ask whether it can discuss tirzepatide and other options, and how ongoing care is handled.

A first conversation can be about your concerns and goals, even before a treatment plan is clear.

You can come to the visit before choosing a particular product.

When online care needs local help

The national group of state medical boards recommends that doctors set up in-person tests or an examination if your health calls for them.

The group says online care needs the same careful health checks as care in the same room.

These recommendations help state medical boards set their rules. They are not a national law; each state decides its own rules.

Ask where you would go if a test or physical exam became part of the plan.

Also ask who receives the results and who explains them to you.

A useful route includes a way to ask questions and arrange local care.
